1. Introduction to the wood pelletizer machine

A vertical ring die wood pelletizer machine is a ring die pelletizer designed to make biomass fuel pellets. Because the pelleting chamber is installed vertically, we call it a vertical ring die wood pelletizer.

Raw material enters from the top of the pelletizer and falls by gravity into the pelleting chamber; inside the chamber, the rollers rotate with the main shaft while the ring die remains stable. The rotating rollers and centrifugal force push the raw material through the ring die holes; at the same time, the rollers press and compress it into pellets.

This vertical ring die wood pelletizer machine produces high-quality wood pellets and other biomass fuel pellets from various wood and biomass materials. It can make pellets from raw materials like wood logs, timber, tree branches, wasted wood, furniture factory wood residues, wood chips, wood shavings, building templates, sawdust, wood material, and sugarcane bagasse, rice husk, coconut shell, straw, stalk, corn cob, agricultural waste, as well as palm timber, EFB, and EFB fiber, etc .biomass material.

Raw material input for this pelletizer machine should match these features: size 3- 5 mm and moisture <15%.

If the size is > 5 mm, usually use a hammer mill to crush it to 3-5 mm; sometimes a wood chipper is needed if the raw material is too large, like wood logs and timber.

If moisture is above 15%, use a rotary drum dryer after crushing to 3-5 mm.

4. Operation and Maintenance for wood pelletizer machine

4.1 Wood pelletizer machine installation

When installing the pelletizer, consider the whole working flowchart, the on-site workshop situation, and decide the place to install it

If you have only one pelletizer, consider the distance to the wall, the electricity supply, and the raw material supply; choose a location close to the raw material supply for easy feeding and close to the electricity supply to reduce cable length. Also consider the distance between the wall and the pelletizer to allow the forklift to move the pelletizer and change accessories.

The wood pelletizer foundation should match the dimensions on the sample drawing and be a concrete floor capable of supporting about 8 tons.

The pelletizer usually uses a belt conveyor or auger to feed material from storage to the pelletizer. The pelletizer dust collector includes an air fan, a dust collection bag, and a hopper. From the pelletizing chamber, there is a dust/vapor exhaust hole; use a pipe to connect this hole to the air fan

4.2 Wood pelletizer machine commissioning

After installing the pelletizer, commission it as follows; below are the commissioning steps and key points.

Check that each part is connected properly, especially inside the pelletizing chamber, and that the rollers are fixed well. Check that the greasing device works properly, and add grease to the rollers.

Check that the gap between the roller and ring die is adjusted to 0.5- 3 mm.

Check for foreign material in the conveyor and pelletizing chamber.

Start the main motor to check the rotation direction; watch the amps and listen for unusual sounds.e

Start the oil pump, cutter motor, and automatic lubricator motor; when everything works properly, turn on the conveyor motor to feed material into the pelletizer.

The frequency changer controls the feeding speed; start slow and increase it gradually until the machine reaches normal operating speed.

After running the machine for 20-30 minutes, stop the machine and check each connection point for looseness; also check the greasing pipe and gearbox oil pipe for oil leakage.

During commissioning, if you notice abnormal noise, high amps, or other issues, the operator should stop the pelletizer, identify the problem, and resolve it.

When the pelletizer runs continuously for one hour, amps can reach 95% of the rated amps; the supervisor should stay on-site to observe motor amps and machine running status for 4-5 hours after commissioning.

4.3 Prepare work to stop the machine after one day of working

Every day before stopping work, continuously run the pelletizer until all the material in the pelletizing chamber is used up (no pellets come out from the pelletizer), feed raw material mixed with waste oil manually from the feeding chute until pellets come out from each hole (observe the pellet quantity discharged from the pelletizer), then stop the main motor, stop the oil recycling motor, greasing device motor, cutter motor, and air fan motor after the rollers and main shaft have stopped.

Adding oil-mixed material to the pelletizer before stopping work prevents raw material from blocking the ring die holes. If you leave normal material in the holes for more than 3-4 hours, it will block the inside of the hole and be difficult to drill out. If you leave material in the holes, oil will enter; the next time you start the machine, new material will come in, and the oil will be easily pressed out.

4.4 Wood pelletizer machine Lubrication and Maintenance

Gearbox lubrication: Before operating the pelletizer machine, remember to add high-temperature-resistant, anti-wear hydraulic oil to the gearbox.

After the pelletizer runs for 300 hours, change the oil; thereafter, change it every 6 months.

Check the oil level; if it is low, add oil to the gearbox.
