Many examples in daily life illustrate that molecules on the surface of a substance have such characteristics: they can adsorb other molecules. The size of the adsorption capacity of a substance is related to the size of the surface area on the one hand. The larger the surface area, the stronger the adsorption capacity. On the other hand, it is also closely related to the nature of matter.
The same goes for washing clothes: when you dissolve soap in water, it is partially decomposed by water or sodium hydroxide and stearic acid. They each have their own "good tricks"-sodium hydroxide can react chemically with dirty things such as grease on clothes, which greatly weakens the suction between the dirty things and the clothes fibers, making it "as if it is separated". And stearic acid? It is particularly easy to foam water. When you knead your clothes with your hands, the white foam, like dozens of crabs exhaling there, floats over the water.
The foam is very small, but its surface area is large, and its adsorption capacity is very strong. It "pulls" the dirty things that have been "shaken" by the sodium hydroxide from the clothes. Because the foam is full of gas, which is lighter than water, it floats to the surface of the water, and by the way, the dirty things that are "pulled" are also brought to the surface of the water so that the clothes are washed clean.
When people buy soap, they all love to buy soap that foams a lot. However, one thing is often overlooked: Although foamy soap is good, these foams must be "lasting"! If there is a lot of foam and the smoke disappears after a while, it is still not a good soap. Many people like to make soap with butter because although the soap foams slowly, but the foam does not disperse for a long time, so the clothes are washed very clean.
