Sawdust rotary drum dryers dry wood chips, sawdust, wood shavings, bagasse, ground fiber from EFB, coconut shell, straw, stalks, and other biomass materials. They can reduce moisture from 50-60% to 8-12%, depending on the final use of the dried material.

The sawdust rotary drum dryer consists of the main drum tube, base rolling roller, reducer/gearbox, feeding chute, discharge chute, heating stove, air fan, cyclone, airlock, connection pipes, and electric panel.

* The drum tube is the main part of the rotary dryer; the diameter and length of the drum tube determine the capacity of the rotary dryer and the moisture-reducing ability of the rotary dryer. Inside the drum tube, a material-raising plate is welded in a special design; its position and angle lift the material and move it from the feeding end to the discharge end when the material pads the drum tube.

* During material passing through the drum tube, the material mixes with hot air supplied by the heating stove; the hot air can vaporize the water content in the raw material.

The heating stove has different solutions:

Traditionally, common heating stoves are built with cement and firebricks and use wood or biomass as fuel.

Nowadays, people also use furnaces to provide hot air to the rotary dryer; the furnace can use wood pellets, sawdust, wood chips, natural gas, or heavy oil as fuel.

Some clients have a large on-site generator and send the generator's waste air to the drum tube as a heat source.

* The rolling rollers and reducer are the base of the drum dryer, and the rollers and gear form the transmission system to the drum tube. The reducer motor is VFD-controlled from the electric panel; adjust the drum tube rotation speed to control moisture reduction. If the raw material moisture content is relatively high, adjust the VFD to run the drum tube slower; if it is relatively low, adjust the VFD to run the drum tube faster.

* The air fan is installed at the end of the drum dryer; it is used to provide suction to the drum tube, thus moving out the vapor from the drum tube. At the end of the drum tube, the dried material is discharged through the discharge chute, and the air fan sucks up the vapor and dust, m then sends it to the cyclone unit.

The cyclone unit is used to remove dust at the end of the drum dryer.
