Rice husk is the shell of paddy, produced at rice mills during rice processing. Rice husk has high fiber content and is a good raw material for pellet production. Rice husk from a rice mill is typically dry, with moisture around 14%, which is ideal for biofuel pelletizing. Because rice husk particles are quite small, a pellet mill can press them directly into biofuel pellets.

Based on our experience pelletizing rice husk, the oil content makes pelletizing easier; however, because rice husk has a low bulk density, pressing it into pellets requires a high-compression-ratio ring die. Many clients use our ring die pellet mill to make rice husk pellets, using a 1:5.8 compression-ratio ring die to produce high-quality pellets.

Rice husk pellets have a calorific value of around 4000 kcal, so they can fuel boilers, furnaces, power plants, and home heating. They are also a good material for animal bedding, such as for sheep, horses, cows, and goats

For small-scale rice husk pellet production, you need only a screw conveyor and one pellet mill: use the screw conveyor to feed rice husk into the pellet mill, which can press it directly into pellets. Because it is small-scale and output is low, the client can cool the pellets naturally and package them manually.

If the client needs to produce rice husk pellets in large quantities or for commercial purposes, they need a complete rice husk pellet production line. This includes pelletizing, pellet cooling and sieving, pellet packaging, and an electric control system.

Pelletizing parts include a conveyor, storage hopper, pellet mill, and a dust collection system for the pellet mill.

The conveyor transfers rice husks into the storage hopper above the pellet mill, where the pellet mill compresses them into biofuel pellets. Because pelletizing produces vapor and dust emissions, we designed this dust collection system to capture them.

Because pellets from the pellet mill are around 70 Celsius, packing them directly is too hot and may damage the bag. If the hot pellets are stored in large quantities without cooling down, during the natural cooling process, the pellets will become loose, and the surface of the pellets will crack because, during slow cooling, some moisture and vapor will be reduced from the pellets; after the vapor and temperature are reduced, some of the pellets crack on the surface. Cracks and losses affect pellet density and appearance. So, after the pellet mill, using a pellet cooler is necessary for a commercial rice husk pellet line.

During pelletizing, some husk or husk powder cannot form pellets, so we need a pellet sieve to separate the pellets and remove fine powder; this ensures all pellets sent to packaging are good quality.

The Pellet packaging section weighs the pellets, fills bags, and seals them. This normally includes a conveyor, hopper, packaging machine, and air compressor.
