Introduction to wood pellet making:

Biomass pellets are made from wood logs, branches, waste wood, peanut shells, sunflower husks, bagasse, rice husks, coconut shells, straw, stalks, and other agricultural waste. Biomass pellets are a clean fuel for home heating, furnaces, boilers, and power plants.

A three-step biomass pellet-making machine includes raw material pre-processing, pelletizing, cooling, and packing.

For a 3t/h biomass pellet-making machine line, we recommend using two sets of MZLH508 pellet mills

The raw material pre-processing step prepares the raw material by reducing moisture to 12-17% and reducing the size to around 5mm.

Because the diameter of the biomass pellets we produce is usually 6mm, 8mm, or 10mm, the raw material we feed into the pellet mill must be smaller than the pellet diameter; otherwise, it cannot be pressed into holes on the ring die. To pre-process raw material size, we generally use a shredder, chipper, or hammer mill, depending on the raw material. For wood material, we commonly use a wood chipper and hammer mill; for agricultural waste, we commonly use a shredder and hammer mill.

Our engineering team has experience with different raw materials; we can assemble the most suitable machines based on the material type and maximum size. Raw material moisture is an important factor in pelletizing; if it is too high,h it cannot be pressed into pellets, and if it is below 12%,% it is too dry. The material will block inside the ring die. Suitable moisture ensures pellet hardness and surface uniformity. In our experience, to make high-quality pellets, raw material moisture can not exceed 17% and should be at least 12%.

We use a rotary drum dryer in our biomass pellet-making line to reduce raw material moisture.

After we pre-process all raw materials to a uniform size and moisture content, we press them into pellets with a pellet mill.

For a 3t/h biomass pellet-making line, we use a ring-die pellet mill because it produces high-quality pellets that comply with EN, DIN, and A1 standards.

The ring die pellet mill is equipped with a feeding auger and a force feeder. The feeding auger supplies raw material to the pellet mill; the auger's rotating speed is controlled by a VVFD to regulate the feed rate and prevent overload. The force feeder pushes raw material into the pelletizing chamber, improving pelletizing efficiency.

The ring die pellet mill includes an electric panel to control motor start and stop and a thermal overload protection unit; if the pellet mill is overloaded or blocked in the pelletizing chamber, the thermal overload system automatically stops the main motor.

The ring die pellet mill is equipped with a safety seat, safety pin, and limit switch; in case there is a blockage in the pelletizing chamber but the electric panel does not stop the main motor and the machine continues running, the safety pin will break, and the limit switch will give a signal to the electric panel to stop the pellet mill main motor, thus protecting the main shaft, hollow shaft, and bearings inside the pellet mill.

The ring die compression ratio is important for producing high-quality pellets; different raw materials have different bulk densities, so you need a suitable compression ratio for each material. We have extensive experience with different raw materials so that we can suggest a suitable compression ratio for yours.

Pellets from the pellet mill are around 70 ℃ and have 10% moisture content. If you store the pellets directly, changes in temperature and moisture can cause surface cracks, affecting pellet uniformity, hardness, and moisture. So we install a counter-flow pellet cooler on a 3t/h biomass pellet-making line to cool the pellets.

After the pellets are cooled and screened, we can store them; we also provide a bagging solution and a bulk storage solution.
