The ring die is also called a mold or matrix; it is a spare/wear part for a horizontal ring die pellet mill. During pellet mill operation, the ring die holes wear out due to high-strength compression.

Compression ratio is important for the ring die; it is the ratio of the hole diameter to the hole's effective compression length. The hole's effective compression length and the compression ratio determine the compression time as raw material passes through the hole; different bulk-density raw materials require different ring-die compression ratios.

The compression ratio determines hardness, color, and pelletizing ratio; in other words, it determines final pellet quality. If the ring die compression ratio is too low for the raw material, the pellets will be loose or won't form when the material passes through the holes. If the compression ratio is too high, the pellet surface may be black, hardness may be too high, or the material may block inside the holes and fail to pass.

For low-bulk-density raw material, usually choose a higher compression-ratio ring die; for high-bulk-density raw material, usually choose a lower compression-ratio ring die.

To produce white pellets with shiny surfaces and good hardness, choose the right compression ratio for your ring die; it is very important.
