The effect of feed crushing particle size on feed quality

Apr 28, 2021

Crushing is an indispensable and important link in the feed processing production line, and it is also an effective way to improve the digestion and utilization of feed by livestock. Its purpose and function: one is to improve the utilization value of materials; the other is to improve the processing quality of feed products. The crushing process is an important part of improving the quality of feed in the process of feed processing, and it is one of the necessary means to make the feed rationally utilized. The size of the crushed particle size should be determined according to the types of raw materials, the types of animals to be fed, the growth stage and the process requirements. Too coarse and too fine particle sizes have disadvantages and cannot achieve the best production state.

1.The size of the crushed material affects the uniformity of the feed. According to tests and experiments, it is found that the smaller the average particle size of the mixed material, the more uniform the particle size, the slower the mixing speed, and the higher the mixing uniformity that can be achieved, and the less it will be during the subsequent transportation and storage. It is easy to produce classification phenomenon. On the contrary, when several materials with a larger difference in particle size are mixed, the uniformity that can be achieved by the mixing is poor. Therefore, in terms of mixing technology, the crushed particle sizes of various feed materials are required to be small and similar in order to achieve a good mixing effect and ensure product quality.

2.Some raw materials, especially raw grain materials, such as corn, wheat, rice, soybeans, etc., have hard and dense seed coats, which are directly fed, and it is difficult for the digestive juice to penetrate the inside. After the materials are crushed, the grains are torn apart. Seed coat, the internal nutrients are exposed, so that the material has a larger surface area, which is convenient for the digestive juice of livestock and poultry to infiltrate better, and the digestibility of feed by livestock and poultry is improved. According to the data, the digestibility of grains with a diameter of 0.85~0.95mm is increased by 3%~5% compared with those with a diameter of 1.7~1.8mm when fed to piglets. At the same time, the material is crushed, which improves the palatability of livestock and poultry, and reduces the prolonged collection time caused by chewing when the animal eats, affects the animal body and digestion and absorption, increases the energy consumption of feeding, and reduces the utilization rate of feed. . Of course, it is not that the finer the material is pulverized, the better. Generally, the pulverized particle size of the material is preferably 0.5-2.0mm, which may vary due to different types of livestock and poultry, feeding stages and types of raw materials. Because the powder is too fine, the palatability of livestock and poultry will become poor, and the material will stick to the middle cavity of livestock and poultry and be difficult to swallow. At the same time, too fine powder can easily cause gastric ulcers in livestock and poultry. Moreover, because the powder is too fine, it will increase the power consumption of feed processing. Reduce the output, increase the wear of the grinder and its hammers, screens and other accessories, and reduce their service life.
