How To Choose Shrimp Feed?
Apr 12, 2021
The main nutrients needed by Penaeus vannamei are protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and so on. And the feed can provide it with a large number of nutrients it needs. We know that in shrimp farming, the cost of feed accounts for more than half of the total farming costs, and the problem of feed quality and safety is becoming increasingly prominent, feed adulteration, and raw material deterioration are common problems. Today we will discuss how to choose high-quality feed and how to Misunderstandings that should be paid attention to when feeding.

To identify the quality of feed is generally the most intuitive judgment from the aspects of appearance, smell, stability, etc. Generally speaking, good quality feed has uniform particle size, high gloss, no mildew, agglomeration and other phenomena. In terms of smell, because most of the general feed is added with fish meal, it usually has a fishy smell, but there is no rancidity or oily smell. In terms of stability, if it is pellets, you can soak the feed in water for one and a half to two hours to judge its stability. If it is soaked in water, it will disintegrate quickly. Such feed cannot be selected. If it is soaked in water for one and a half hours The pellets will not fall apart within hours, and the pellets will be complete. This kind of feed has better stability.
Preservation of feed: Generally speaking, feed is prone to decay and deteriorate in humid seasons when humidity is high, especially the feed warehouse of our farm is generally near the pond. The temperature difference between morning and evening is large, and water vapor can easily cause local mildew. Therefore, the feed should be stored in a place that does not leak rain, is not humid, has good ventilation, and has a low temperature. In addition, the main feed should not be stacked directly on the ground to prevent moisture absorption from the ground. Especially in the summer, the warehouse for storing feed should be cleaned and disinfected regularly to prevent pests. You can use a desiccant or a dehumidifier to keep the room dry. A simpler method can be to use dried kelp to absorb moisture. Generally, dry kelp is placed in a feed warehouse for about ten days to expose to the sun, and then absorb moisture.
Misunderstandings that we are prone to exist in breeding:
1. The higher the protein content, the better? Some of our farmers think that the more protein contained in the feed, the faster the growth of aquatic animals, but they do not realize that this idea is wrong. Due to the excessive pursuit of high protein by shrimp farmers and the increase in raw material prices, feed manufacturers have to add low-fat protein or artificial protein substitutes to reduce feed quality. In fact, Penaeus vannamei has a lower protein requirement than giant tiger prawns. Especially in the middle and late stages of aquaculture, the protein requirement is about 5% lower than that in the early stage. Therefore, relatively low protein and high digestibility feed should be selected to reduce it. Intestinal digestion burden. It should also be noted that if the high-protein feed fed cannot be fully utilized, it will accumulate at the bottom of the pond, which will more likely to breed bacteria and induce diseases.
2. Wrong medication habits. Some farmers are accustomed to adding some raw powders of drugs, such as antibiotics, to prevent bacterial diseases during the feeding process. Long-term addition of such drugs increases the burden on the liver and pancreas of prawns, destroys the normal flora of the intestines, and forms prawns. Habits aggravate drug resistance, and when prawns develop diseases, they are often treated slowly or even without drugs. Such an approach is not beneficial to breeding but will have the opposite effect.
3. Reasonably arrange feeding time. Shrimp farming is not about feeding as soon as the seedlings are released. After the seedlings are released, if the transparency of the pond is about 30 cm, the water color is dark brown or light green, and there are a lot of plankton in the water. At this time, no feeding is needed. These plankton in the water are natural high-quality bait for prawns. The nutritional value of the purchased feed is many times higher. So when to feed? Watch the table. Take the feed table to judge whether it should be fed. If the feed in the feed table is eaten up, the plankton in the water can no longer meet the needs of the shrimp larvae and should be feed.
4. Control the eating time. Prawns are olfactory animals. No matter how good the quality of the feed is, the immersion time in the water is too long, causing the feed to become moldy and smelly in the water. The prawns are not eating, causing great waste and causing great pollution to the water body. , Breed a large number of bacteria, induce the occurrence of various diseases.
5. Keep feeding the shrimp as long as it eats the ingredients? Some farmers think that as long as the prawns are fed, they will keep feeding them, and blindly think that it is a good thing to keep feeding the prawns as long as they eat. In fact, excessive feeding will increase the burden on the liver and pancreas, causing compensatory swelling and redness. This is also one of the important factors that cause white feces in prawns. We all know that the liver and pancreas of prawns are very important organs, and special attention should be paid in breeding. Therefore, we should pay attention to the appropriate feeding and timely control of the feed. It is recommended to stop feeding once a week not only to reduce the burden on the liver and pancreas, but also to help. In the lure effect.
